This position is exposed to laboratory animals   The Analytical Chemist/Mass Spectrometerist [Associate Professor] will direct the daily operations of the Military Exposure Research program shared analytical resource for small molecule mass spectrometry. The individual will have considerable latitude for exercise of independent judgment and will provide direct research and research training support at the professional level to execute research projects. The individual should have an exemplary level of leadership and independence to manage multiple research projects and staff. The individual will be responsible for supervising technical staff and research personnel in sample preparation, handling, processing and analysis. In addition to having expertise in methodologies and technical skills to not only function independently but to also train and supervise others, the individual will also be expected to present and interpret data, draft publications and serve as a co-Principal Investigator (PI) for grant or other funding opportunities. He/She will be expected to make significant and creative contributions in the field of environmental exposure and nutritional effects on small molecule bio-markers of health and disease. The individual must possess expertise in technical specifications, operations and trouble shooting of different mass spectrometry platforms from a variety of vendors.  She/he should have already distinguished themselves by serving as a co-investigator on multiple extramural grants, as a director of a similar facility and through a significant track record of authorship on peer-reviewed publications in small molecule analysis, environmental exposures, analytic chemistry and nutritional effects.    Faculty are appointed in the COM, Department of Internal Medicine at the rank commensurate with their training and experience. The Faculty are expected to promote academic excellence, provide patient care (when applicable). As a Faculty member, it is imperative to provide coordination, continuity, and community outreach, research and instruction.
